Thousand Oaks Goes Deep to Sweep Marmonte Meet

Ross Wood and Mitch Beck of Newbury Park High finished first and second, but Thousand Oaks placed five runners among the top eight finishers to post a runaway victory Thursday in a Marmonte League cross-country meet at Waverly Park in Thousand Oaks.

Wood clocked 16 minutes 11 seconds and Beck 16:21 over the three-mile course, but Thousand Oaks (3-0, 3-0 in league) defeated Newbury Park, 25-36, and Camarillo, 19-44.

John Barbachano placed third in 16:28 for the Lancers and teammates Danny Kilgore (16:35), John Haskell (16:37), Marc Garelick (16:55) and Bryan Moncrief (16:58) followed in fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth for the four-time defending league champions.

In the girls’ meet, Thousand Oaks (3-0, 3-0) defeated Camarillo, 20-37, and Newbury Park, 19-38. Lancers Amanda Armstrong and Melissa McBain placed first and third in 19:17 and 20:09.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

La Canada d. South Pasadena, 15-8, 15-12, 17-15--Emily Dalbeck had 16 kills and Stephanie Tenerelli added 12 kills and seven aces for the Spartans (3-3, 2-0) in a Rio Hondo League match.

Ventura d. Oxnard, 15-7, 9-15, 16-14, 15-6--Shanna Bauleke had 11 kills for Ventura (2-4, 2-4) in a Channel League match at Oxnard. Shannon Menvel added eight kills, Marissa Ellis served three aces and Linde Smith added 28 assists.

Village Christian d. Vasquez, 15-0, 15-2, 15-6--Maryann Parker and Sara Fristad combined for 22 aces for the Crusaders (5-3, 1-1) in an Alpha League match.

Harvard-Westlake d. Notre Dame, 16-14, 15-11, 15-2--Malaika Nalls had 10 kills and 16 blocks for the Wolverines (6-1, 2-0) in a Mission League match at Harvard-Westlake.

Granada Hills d. El Camino Real, 15-3, 15-4, 6-15, 15-8--Michelle Ferrucci had eight kills and Gina Karabogias had eight assists for the Highlanders (5-0, 2-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Westlake 12, Agoura 6--Erin Smith, the Warriors’ No. 2 singles player, extended her Marmonte League unbeaten streak to 60 sets over two seasons, beating all three of her opponents at Agoura (4-6, 3-3). Westlake is 6-1, 5-1.

Harvard-Westlake 15, Louisville 3--Lindsy Forbess swept her No. 3 singles matches for the Wolverines (7-3, 4-1) in a Mission League match at the Calabasas Tennis Club. Lori Markman and Chelsea Heller won all their doubles matches for Harvard-Westlake.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Moorpark d. Bakersfield, 15-9, 15-8, 15-13--Kristin Lee had 24 kills and 14 digs, and Julie Watson had 40 assists for Moorpark (6-2, 4-0) in a Western State Conference match at Moorpark.
