Thomas’ Four Touchdown Passes Help Unbeaten Aliso Niguel Roll

Junior quarterback Wes Thomas threw four touchdown passes to lead Aliso Niguel High to a 38-7 nonleague victory over Woodbridge Thursday at Irvine High.

Thomas completed 12 of 23 passes for 243 yards to lead the Wolverines, ranked ninth in Orange County.

Senior wide receiver Andrew Mashburn caught two of the touchdown passes, a 64-yard reception in the third quarter that put Aliso Niguel (5-0) ahead, 31-7, and an 18-yard reception later in the quarter that gave the Wolverines a 38-7 lead.

Woodbridge (0-5), which is winless in its last 20 games, was forced to use a third-string quarterback, Steve Terwiske because starter Adam Lawyer and back-up Scott Barlow are sidelined with injuries.

Terwiske, a sophomore, completed nine of 27 passes for 86 yards and three interceptions.

Aliso Niguel took the early lead when Thomas connected with Nick Singleton on a 16-yard touchdown pass with 8:34 remaining in the first quarter.

Woodbridge tied the score, 7-7, on a one-yard touchdown run by Chad Harris with 1:55 remaining in the first quarter.

But Aliso Niguel countered with 31 consecutive points.

Scott Nemeth hauled in a 35-yard touchdown pass from Thomas with 6:47 remaining in the second quarter to put the Wolverines ahead, 14-7.

Then Nemeth scored from one yard out with 1:23 remaining in the second quarter, giving Aliso Niguel a 21-7 lead.

The Wolverines got the ball back one more time after an interception and David Waltzman made a 29-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to give Aliso Niguel a 24-7 halftime lead.
