Dawkins Does Damage for La Quinta in 35-24 Victory
Running back Jhamal Dawkins rushed for three touchdowns and returned a kickoff for another to help La Quinta jump to an early 28-0 lead, and the Aztecs held on to defeat San Jacinto, 35-24, Saturday night at Bolsa Grande High.
“Jhamal’s the man,” La Quinta Coach Jeff Veeder said. “He’s the bus we ride every week.”
Dawkins, who rushed for 246 yards in 25 carries, took the opening kickoff, ran right and sprinted 90 yards near the left sideline for the first score of the game.
The Aztecs also took advantage of two San Jacinto turnovers, converting them into touchdowns. On the first turnover, cornerback Daniel Almazan intercepted a pass from Tiger quarterback Bobby Duistermars and ran in from 58 yards.
On the second, the defense recovered a fumble on the Tigers’ 23-yard line, setting up a nine-yard touchdown run by Dawkins, who also scored from 59 and 84 yards.
