Spain was no match for Phil Mickelson and the rest of the U.S. team at the Dunhill Cup on Saturday at St. Andrews, Scotland.

Mickelson won by 11 strokes with a six-under-par 66, and Steve Stricker birdied four of the last six holes as the United States moved into the semifinals by beating Spain, 3-0.

Stricker, Mickelson and Mark O’Meara, who also play as individuals in next week’s World Match Play at Wentworth, England, will face Sweden, which defeated India, 3-0, today for a place in the Dunhill final.

In the other semifinal, South Africa faces New Zealand.

Australia, led by Greg Norman, would have made the semifinal even by losing, 2-1, to New Zealand because of its strong earlier results, but went down, 3-0, with Norman beaten by Frank Nobilo.

Mickelson leads the money list in the PGA Tour, with O’Meara fourth and Stricker fifth, and all three reflected that form by outplaying the Spanish trio of Ignacio Garrido, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Diego Borrego in rainy conditions on the Old Course.

David Ogrin shot a four-under-par 68 to extend his lead to three strokes after three rounds of the Texas Open at San Antonio.

Ogrin has a 54-hole total of 13-under 203, three strokes ahead of Jay Haas, who shot a 70.

Tommy Armour III was at 207 after shooting a 64 that tied the course record set by Loren Roberts last year.

Tiger Woods, two strokes off the lead entering the third round, couldn’t overcome a bad start and shot a 73. That left him in a group of eight at 210.

Woods appeared poised to make a run at the lead at the halfway point of the tournament, but he bogeyed No. 1 and had two more on the front nine.

Annika Sorenstam shot a five-under-par 67 to take a three-shot lead over Laura Davies after three rounds of the Betsy King LPGA Classic at Kutztown, Pa.

Sorenstam’s 54-hole total is 14-under 202.

Davies, who shot a 71, started strong, with an eagle on the par-five fourth, but then three-putted for a bogey on No. 7. Sorenstam’s birdie on the same hole put her on top of the leaderboard for the rest of the round.
