2 Brothers Wounded by Shots Fired Into Home

A sleeping 3-year-old boy and his 19-year-old brother were shot late Monday night by a gunman who police theorize was standing on a hill across the street from their City Terrace house.

The boy, whose name was withheld, was shot in the abdomen and right leg, and the older brother, Trinidad Hernandez, was shot in the right side of the neck, officials said. Both were listed in stable condition at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.

No one else was at the residence at the time of the shooting, deputies said.

Detectives said they have no suspects or leads in the case.

“Nothing at all,” said Deputy Art Barrera.

The brothers were in separate bedrooms when they were shot about 11:35 p.m.

Deputies said the bullets appear to have been fired from the hill, which is across the street from the brothers’ home in the 1100 block of North Alma Avenue near City Terrace Drive.

Gang investigators are examining the case, but deputies did not know if the shootings were gang-related, Barrera said.

“We’d love to have the community involved. They can contact us if they have any information or if they can help in any way,” Barrera said.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at the East L.A. sheriff’s station at (213) 264-4151.
