Muilenburg Leads Brethren Christian Past Calvary Chapel

Brethren Christian running back Daniel Muilenburg scored four touchdowns as the Warriors defeated Calvary Chapel, 28-18, Friday in an Olympic League football game at Artesia High School.

Muilenburg, a 6-foot-1 senior, caught seven passes for 127 yards and rushed for 40 yards, and the Warriors’ offense gained 280 yards.

“We got off to a good start tonight” Muilenburg said. “We needed to get this first win in league under our belts.”

Midway through the first quarter, Muilenburg gave Brethren Christian a 7-0 lead when he caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from quarterback David Priestley.

Following an Eagle field goal, the Warriors (4-2, 1-0 in league) drove 70 yards in 10 plays to take a 14-3 lead. Muilenburg capped the drive with a three-yard scoring run.

With 46 seconds remaining in the half, Muilenburg scored his third touchdown on a 30-yard pass from Priestley.

Priestley completed 11 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Daniel Murrietta threw for 261 yards and two second-half touchdowns for Calvary Chapel (0-5-1, 0-1), but the Warrior defense, led by Willie Costa and David Eamigh, recorded six sacks to secure the victory.

Brethren Christian safety Rob Osterman was injured early in the third quarter while attempting to make a tackle. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital for X-rays for possible broken ribs.
