Considering David Cone’s performance in Game 3 when he gave up only one run in six innings before tiring after 97 pitches, does Torre regret not starting Cone in the first or second games?

“Well, the only thing I can say there is David gave up one run,” Torre said, “and we wouldn’t have still been playing any of those games. We had no chance of winning, scoring only one run. David Cone was not going to get any better than not giving up more than one run, and we needed more than one run in both of those games.”

Cone has not pitched more than seven innings after undergoing surgery for an aneurysm in May.
