Marquand, University Set the Pace

Allyson Marquand led University past Aliso Niguel, 16-47, in a Pacific Coast League girls’ cross-country dual meet Wednesday at Mason Park in Irvine.
Both teams were unbeaten before the meet.
Marquand won the three-mile race in 18 minutes 2 seconds for University (4-0 in league), ranked fifth in the county and third in the Southern Section Division II.
Misha Wilson finished second in 18:31 for University, which swept the top four spots.
Aliso Niguel is 3-1 in league.
In another Pacific Coast League meet:
Laguna Hills 23, Costa Mesa 33--Brooke Thomas won the three-mile race at Costa Mesa in 19:28 for visiting Laguna Hills (3-1).
In the Century League:
El Modena 18, Villa Park 43--Jessica Dahlberg and Katie Kennedy won in 18:54 over three miles at Irvine Park for host El Modena (5-0), which won its 17th consecutive dual meet over three seasons.
In the Freeway League:
Sunny Hills 18, Fullerton 45--Allyson Kulak won in 19:46 over three miles at Clark Park for host Sunny Hills (6-0, 4-0), ranked ninth in Division II.
In the Orange League:
Brea Olinda 15, Western 50--Michelle Thune finished first with a time of 18:02 over three miles as Brea Olinda swept the top five places.
In the South Coast League:
Dana Hills 18, Capistrano Valley 43--Sydney Leonard set a course record on the three-mile course, finishing in 17:51 at Dana Hills High for the top-ranked Dolphins (4-0). Dana Hills’ Regina Schudlich set the previous record of 17:59 in 1987.
In Century League boys’ cross-country:
El Modena 21, Villa Park 38--Tim Allen won in 16:00 over three miles at Irvine Park for El Modena (4-1).
Santa Ana Valley 21, Orange 34--Orange’s Nick Russell won in 15:23 for second-ranked Santa Ana Valley (5-0).
In the Orange League boys’ cross-country:
Brea Olinda 20, Western 43--Mike Solis finished in 15:08 as Brea Olinda (4-0) remained undefeated in league races. Western’s Mark Montijo won in 15:01 over three miles at Western.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Costa Mesa 20, Laguna Hills 35--Jaime Carrillo won the three-mile race in 15:58 for host Costa Mesa (4-0), top-ranked in Division IV. Laguna Hills is 3-1.
In the South Coast League:
Capistrano Valley 27, Dana Hills 29--Capistrano Valley (2-2) placed three runners in the top four to edge Dana Hills. Leonel Perez finished first for the Cougars in 15:36 over three miles at Dana Hills.
Mission Viejo 18, San Clemente 45--Mark Gleason won in 16:01 over three miles at San Clemente High for Mission Viejo (4-0).
In Golden West League girls’ volleyball:
Ocean View 3, Saddleback 0--Amy Knebel had 10 kills for ninth-ranked Ocean View (12-0, 5-0), which won, 15-4, 15-5, 15-9.
In Century League water polo:
Foothill 23, El Modena 1--Jeremy Katz scored seven goals for top-ranked Foothill (17-1, 3-0). Ryan Carroll added three goals.
Villa Park 18, Orange 7--Joey Pacelli scored eight goals in a victory for second-ranked Villa Park (19-3, 3-0). Kyle Baumgarner scored six goals for Villa Park.
In the Empire League:
El Dorado 24, Century 4--Casey Blythe scored seven goals and teammate Nat VanEck had three for seventh-ranked El Dorado (14-4, 3-0).
In the Golden West League:
Servite 18, Saddleback 4--Sixth-ranked Servite took immediate control of this game, scoring eight goals in the first quarter. Chris Dallas and Erik and Mike Kim scored three goals each for Servite (14-4, 3-0).
In the Sea View League:
El Toro 4, Corona del Mar 3--Matt Sakatani scored in the last second of the game as fourth-ranked El Toro edged Corona del Mar (7-9, 2-1). Sakatani scored three goals in the game.
In the Sunset League:
Los Alamitos 13, Fountain Valley 6--Tyler Wawrzynski scored six goals for Los Alamitos (15-5, 3-0), ranked third in Orange County and first in Division II.
