Leonard Will Fight Camacho in February

Lured by pride and the desire to use boxing in his charity work for children, 40-year-old Sugar Ray Leonard on Thursday officially announced his latest comeback.

It will begin in February in the middleweight division, at an undetermined site, against Hector Camacho, 34.

Leonard, who has won titles in five weight classes, has been out of the ring since losing to Terry Norris in February 1991. He said the detached retina that forced his first retirement a decade ago is a “non-issue” and has been checked thoroughly over the years.

“If there’s any attribute I do have, it’s focus--I enjoy winning,” said Leonard, who has turned to agent Leigh Steinberg to help establish a charitable foundation that will be funded partly through his bouts. “When I’m motivated, when there’s a reason for me to do something, nothing stands in my way.”
