Galaxy Plays Colombian Team Today

Share

The Los Angeles Galaxy--plus a couple of guest players--takes on Colombian champion Deportivo Cali today in the second game of an international doubleheader at the Rose Bowl.

The 4:30 p.m. match is the Galaxy’s third, but not necessarily last, international game of the year. There is the possibility that the team, which was beaten, 3-2, in overtime by Washington in last Sunday’s Major League Soccer title game at Foxboro, Mass., will play El Salvador’s national team within the next two weeks.

The Salvadorans have requested the game as a warmup for their World Cup ’98 qualifying match against Canada.

The Galaxy will be without Eduardo Hurtado, who has returned to Ecuador to play for Barcelona, and goalkeeper Jorge Campos, who has returned to Mexico to play for Atlante.

Filling in for Hurtado at striker will be South African national team forward Shaun Bartlett of the MLS’ Colorado Rapids.

Today’s doubleheader begins with a 2 p.m. match between Communicaciones of Guatemala and Olimpia of Honduras.
