In another Marmonte League game:

Simi Valley 21, Royal 6--Chad Basalone rushed 11 times for 67 yards and two touchdowns as the Pioneers defeated the Highlanders for the fourth consecutive year.

Basalone scored on fourth-quarter runs of eight and 26 yards to help Simi Valley (4-6, 2-5) put the game out of reach after Royal (1-9, 1-6) closed to within 8-6 on a 12-yard scoring pass from Braden Fien to tight end Ryan Nielsen with 3:42 to play in the third quarter.

The play capped a nine-play, 47-yard drive by the Highlanders, who ended the season with four losses in a row.

Simi Valley was playing without senior quarterback David Krewson, who was ejected from the Pioneers’ previous game and forced to sit out. In his place, Anthony Safechuck completed five of eight passes for 57 yards with one interception.

Safechuck put Simi Valley ahead, however, by leading an 11-play, 73-yard scoring drive to open the game. John Gonzalez scored the touchdown on a nine-yard run and Safechuck ran for a two-point conversion.

Also for the Pioneers, Mike Boyd had 79 yards in eight carries. On defense, linebacker Ryan Tuttle had five sacks for minus-36 yards.

Fien completed 19 of 28 for 179 yards and one touchdown. Nielsen had five catches for 55 yards, Kevin Flores had five for 45 yards and Ray Molina added four for 50 yards.
