Camarillo Completes Crowning

Behind a strong defensive effort, Camarillo High won its first Marmonte League championship since 1984 with a 49-15 victory over Channel Islands on Friday night at Camarillo.

Camarillo (8-2, 7-0 in league play), which has won eight in a row after opening with two losses, was led by defensive back Bubba Jackson, who returned interceptions of 28 and 57 yards for touchdowns.

Andy Kroneberger returned a fumble 10 yards for another score as the defense forced four turnovers and recorded five sacks.

Scorpions quarterback Joe Borchard scored on a nine-yard run and threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Justin Denham. Borchard completed nine of 21 for 77 yards and Mike Anger caught six passes for 37 yards.

John Howe led Camarillo on the ground with 90 yards in eight carries. Howe scored on runs of 55 and seven yards.

Channel Islands (1-9, 0-7) was led by quarterback Nick Ciari, who completed nine of 24 pass attempts for 158 yards, including a nine-yard touchdown pass to Russell Patton.
