Swimmer Cox Plans to Attend Harvard

Carly Cox of Capistrano Valley, The Times Orange County first-team selection in the 500 freestyle in 1996, has made an oral commitment to swim for Harvard, Mission Viejo Nadadores Coach Bill Rose said Friday. Cox finished fifth in the Division I finals last spring.

Rose also said Laguna Beach freestyle specialist Katie Cramm has signed to swim at Virginia.

Charline Mendoza, a guard at Mater Dei, has signed a letter of intent to to play women’s basketball at San Jose State.

Mendoza averaged 6.6 points and four steals per game.

Christina Garcia, a transfer from Seattle Christian to Mater Dei, has signed to play women’s basketball at Nevada Las Vegas.

Garcia, who lives in Huntington Beach, is a 6-0 guard who averaged 22.3 points last year.

Kristi Hensel, a pitcher at Kennedy, has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Fresno State.

Hensel was 6-2 with a 0.74 earned-run average for Kennedy.

Alicia Dowland, a shortstop at Kennedy, has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Fresno State.
