It was the pass-happy offense of Santa Barbara City College and countless mistakes by Glendale that decided Saturday’s Western State Conference Northern Division game at Glendale High.

Matt Tobin, starting in place of injured J.T. Stone, passed for 307 yards and one touchdown in an 18-16 Santa Barbara victory. Glendale’s comeback attempt ended in the closing seconds when Aryn Hart was sacked deep in his territory.

Hart, who completed 10 of 30 passes for 167 yards, was sacked five times. The loss ended any hopes of Glendale (4-5, 2-2 in the conference) winning a share of the Northern Division title.

Glendale took a 9-0 lead on a 20-yard touchdown run by Rahsaan Harrison and a 32-yard field goal by Max Huchthausen.

But after that Glendale’s offense, which had averaged 33 points a game in conference play, struggled.

Glendale trailed, 15-9, in the fourth quarter when Hart completed a 29-yard touchdown pass to Rocky Barbaro. Huchthausen’s extra point gave Glendale a 16-15 lead.

Santa Barbara (6-2, 3-1) quickly drove to the Glendale five-yard line before settling for a 22-yard field goal by Steve Sherritt, who also had field goals of 32 and 27 yards.
