Cross-Country Finals Moved

The Southern Section cross-country finals today at Mt. San Antonio College will be run on the “rain course” instead of the hilly, three-mile regular course, which is mostly dirt terrain, according to meet manager Hal Harkness.

“The decision I made was based on what I saw at two o’clock [Friday],” Harkness said. “We couldn’t conduct a meet at that time and with the sun going down the conditions were not going to get any better.”

Harkness said the rain course, though “not flat by any means,” is less challenging than the regular course and is almost entirely asphalt. Harkness said section officials also decided to waive all admission fees for the meet, as the new course is much less spectator-friendly.

The 1983 section prelims at Mt. SAC were run on an alternate course because of rains, but that course has become obsolete because of campus construction.
