Doll Hut to Stage Holiday Benefits

TIMES STAFF WRITER

Linda’s Doll Hut in Anaheim will devote each Friday and Saturday this month to benefit rock concerts--the 14th consecutive year in which club owner Linda Jemison has been involved in staging holiday concerts for charity.

Phil Alvin of the Blasters (Friday), One Hit Wonder (Dec. 14) and an acoustic Christmas party Dec. 27 are among the attractions in this year’s eight-concert series. Last year’s series included an unannounced performance by the Offspring.

Past Doll Hut benefits have raised about $3,000 annually, Jemison said, and that will again be the target figure. The money raised this year will go to the American Red Cross, Orangewood Children’s Home and the Orange County Food Bank.

OTHER DOLL HUT NEWS: Jemison reports that police arrested a burglar early Nov. 24 as he tried to break into the Doll Hut by smashing through the wood-frame structure with a crowbar. She said it was the third break-in attempt at the club in the past six weeks, all involving bashing through walls.

Jemison said the recent break-ins have cost about $600 in stolen cash and property, and that structural repairs could cost another $2,500 to $3,000. That might lead to a repeat of a 1995 benefit concert that the tiny grass-roots venue staged after burglars made off with its sound system.
