Westlake High setter Brooke Rundle was named Marmonte League girls’ volleyball player of the year. Harvard-Westlake middle blocker Malaika Naulls was named Mission League player of the year.

Kennedy High’s Melissa Kuhn and Christine Thach, and Chatsworth’s Pam George were named to the All-City Section 4-A Division girls’ volleyball team. Sylmar’s Patty Mendoza and Sandra Smiley were named 3-A co-players of the year.

Brendan Naeve, David Stoekly and goalie Russell Bernstein of La Canada High were named to the All-Rio Hondo League water polo team.

Ten Ventura College women’s soccer players earned All-Western State Conference honors.

Sweeper Joy Barry was named player of the year and all-conference, as were forwards Allyson Munday and Carrie Waller, midfielder Pattie Sueoka and defenders Randy Zinn and Alicia Morosic.

Named to the second team were forward Mandee Westbrook, midfielder Roxanne Pena, defender Janet Cooper and goalkeeper Lori Bailey.

The Pirates, a first-year program, won the conference title.

Westlake High tennis players Erin Smith and Helena Horak have been named Marmonte League co-most valuable players for the second consecutive season.

Smith had a 41-1 set record in league and Horak was 40-2, leading the Warriors to second place.

Local women’s soccer players Nicole Bucciarelli and Jennifer Peterson have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America All-West Region third team.

Bucciarelli is a sophomore forward at UC Irvine and a 1995 Grant High graduate. Peterson, a freshman forward at Pepperdine, led the Waves with 12 goals and seven assists and was also an All-West Coast Conference selection.
