SAN CLEMENTE

Coach: Mark Calentino (seventh year).
1995-96: 16-5 overall, 4-1 in the South Coast League; the Tritons beat rival Capistrano Valley to win the league title.
Key returners: Mateo Headrick, 215, Sr.; Tim Humphry, 152, Sr.; Kevin Means, 119, Sr.; Robert Richardson, Hwt., Jr.; Nate Sayer, 145, Sr.; Paul Virgin, 125, Sr.
Key newcomers: Ryan Barang, 103, Jr.; Fred Fredlund, 189, Sr.; Chris Harrison, Jr., 215; David Luciani, 135, So.; Ryan Moore, 119/125, Jr.; Shahab Moustafa, 112, Sr.; Josh Sill, 189, So.
Outlook: With nine varsity wrestlers returning, the Tritons may have the second-best team in Orange County. Led by South Coast League champions Virgin and Headrick, San Clemente should win its second consecutive league title. However, a key to the Tritons’ success lies in Headrick and whether he can keep his grades up. Last year, Headrick dominated the mats, handing El Toro’s Damian deBeaubiean one of his rare losses; however, Headrick was unable to compete in Southern Section Division I finals because he was academically ineligible.
