Long Beach Women Advance in Volleyball

Long Beach State moved a step closer to the NCAA women’s volleyball finals with a 15-10, 15-13, 15-6 over Minnesota Saturday at Long Beach State.

Jenn Snyder led the 49ers (33-2) with 18 kills, Nique Crump had 13 and Misty May contributed 11 kills and 48 assists.

Long Beach plays Michigan State in the quarterfinals, Thursday at Florida.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

California 70, Long Beach State 53--Adara Newidouski scored 16 points and Ember Brown had 12 for Long Beach State (1-4), which was outscored, 37-26, in the second half.

Concordia 110, La Sierra 18--The Eagles held La Sierra to seven first-half points and six field goals for the game. Six players scored in double figures for Concordia (6-0), including Angela Good, who had 21.

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Cal Poly Pomona 75, Concordia 74--Concordia led by three at halftime, but was outscored, 37-33, in the second half. Kalim Scott scored 20 points to lead Concordia.

Southern California College 93, Pomona Pitzer 74--The Vanguards jumped to a 42-29 halftime lead and then coasted to the victory at home. Terence Wilborn scored 23 points and Justin McIntee had 18 for SCC (4-2).

In the Speedo Cup:

UC Irvine men finish seventh--The Anteaters’ Omar Amr placed third in the 100-meter freestyle in 46.86 seconds and teammate Chris Robertson placed third in the 200 butterfly in 1:54.56. The Anteater men finished fifth in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:10.89.
