UC Irvine’s Omar Amr Honored

UC Irvine’s Omar Amrhas been named to the first-team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo team.

Amr scored 57 goals for the Anteaters, who finished 16-8 and were fifth in the final national rankings. Irvine’s Ryan Bailey and Craig Watson were named to the third team. Jeff Hall of Long Beach State also was named to the third team.

Three University High parents and two students went before the Irvine Unified School District board Tuesday to complain about the Trojan boys’ basketball program.

Supt. Dennis Smith told the group that he “had conducted a thorough investigation and found no improprieties that could be substantiated regarding drug use [by players] or misappropriation of funds.”

“I support the staff and school in this area,” Smith said, adding that he had addressed the group’s concerns last spring with a 17-page response.

Andrea Warner, a senior at Dana Hills, has orally committed to USC to play soccer, said Jim Warner, her father. Warner, a midfielder, missed all but two games last season after tearing ligaments in her right ankle. She scored 20 goals as a sophomore and was a first-team All-South Coast League selection.

Former Servite guard Sean Rawson, who is taking classes at USC, will transfer to Claremont-McKenna-Mudd-Scripps at the end of this semester and plans to play basketball next season, Friar Coach Scott Hamilton said.

Rawson averaged 12 points last season for Servite.
