Baca, deBruijn Pace Fullerton to Victory

Angie Baca scored 24 points and Michelle deBruijn had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead Fullerton to an 82-63 victory over Mt. San Antonio in a nonconference women’s basketball game Wednesday at Fullerton.

The Hornets (5-5) closed out the first half with a 17-4 run that was capped by Lauren Murphy’s three-pointer. Murphy scored 12 points for Fullerton and Nadia Hoerner, playing in her first game after leading the Hornets’ volleyball team to the state finals, had eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Mounties (6-4) were led by Camille Berkett, who scored 17 points, and Heather Johnson and Dina Mayeda, who had 10 points each.

In another nonconference game:

Rancho Santiago 75, College of the Desert 47--Chanel Neal and Pauline McGee each scored 20 points to lead Rancho Santiago.

The Dons took a 10-point halftime lead, before outscoring Desert, 38-20, in the second half.

Antoinette Thompson had 15 points for Rancho Santiago (11-1). Jennifer Taylor led College of the Desert with 17 points.

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Cypress 76, Long Beach 72--Cypress scored 50 points in the second half to overcome a three-point halftime deficit.

Willie Allen led Cypress (4-6) with 21 points, hitting 12 of 14 from the free throw line. A.D. Lamoureux scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half and led the team in rebounding with 14. Chris Morris also scored 17 points Derrick Watson scored 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in reserve.

Fabian Nixon led Long Beach (8-6) with 21 points.

Irvine Valley 70, San Diego 53--Brandon Hearvey scored 25 points and Daryl Todd had 16 in the victory for visiting Irvine Valley (10-3).
