Royal Relies on Flood for Victory

Freshman forward Katy Flood scored twice to give the Royal High girls’ soccer team a 2-1 victory over Moorpark and the runners-up bracket title at the Royal tournament Saturday.

Flood gave the Highlanders (3-3) a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute. After a goal by Moorpark’s Amber McKenzie tied the score at halftime, Flood scored the winning goal in the 67th minute off a pass from Jenny Myszkowski.

Chaminade 7, Santa Maria 0--Freshman forward Liz Buhn scored four goals for the Eagles (10-0-1) at Santa Maria.

Louisville 2, Notre Dame 1--Alison Shuler’s goal in the second overtime gave the Royals (5-3) the victory in the Simi Valley tournament’s consolation bracket.

Ventura 2, Camarillo 1--Sera Haycox and Kristi Birney scored for the Cougars (4-5-1) in a Simi Valley tournament consolation game against the Scorpions (4-5-1).

Birmingham 6, Cleveland 1--Kris Oakes scored four goals for the Braves (5-2) in the Narbonne tournament championship match.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Simi Valley 2, Hawthorne 1--Craig Chelius converted two second-half penalty kicks for the Pioneers (7-0-1) in pool play at the South Torrance tournament.

Scott Williams had two goals in a 4-1 victory over Mira Costa (0-4-4) later in the day.

El Camino Real 2, San Pedro 1--The Conquistadores (7-2-2) outshot the Pirates, 5-4, in penalty kicks in the championship match of the Narbonne tournament.

El Camino Real’s Joey Barlev scored in regulation.

Burroughs 5, Paraclete 0--Brian Criscuolo, Robbie Honicky, Amed Meneses, Miguel Meneses and Jose Munoz scored for the Indians (6-1-1) in a trouncing of the Spirits (3-4-1).
