Simi Valley Trips at Line

It looked like the Simi Valley High girls’ basketball team was going to win the game at the free-throw line.

But that’s where the Pioneers lost it, instead.

Glendora St. Lucy’s sank seven free throws in the last 1 1/2 minutes and rallied to beat the Pioneers, 45-40, in a Simi Valley tournament semifinal game Thursday night at Simi Valley.

With Simi Valley ahead, 38-36, Christina Wilson of St. Lucy’s (5-3) sank four consecutive free throws in an eight-second stretch to give St. Lucy’s the lead for good with 1:24 to play.

Simi Valley (6-3) converted 19 of 26 free throws. Entering the fourth quarter, in which St. Lucy’s was seven of eight from the line, the Pioneers had made 14 of 17 free throws and St. Lucy’s had made eight of 11.

Simi Valley led most of the game, including 33-25 with 3:19 to go in the third quarter.

Christina Mosesso led Simi Valley with 10 points.

In another tournament games:

Hart 59, Channel Islands 37--Playing in her first game of the season, Candace Boller scored 28 points and had 17 rebounds to lead the Indians (6-3) in a semifinal game.

Boller scored 12 of her points in the first quarter and had 21 of Hart’s 26 points in the first half.

Chaminade 38, Burbank 29--Adriane Stefansen had 12 points and seven rebounds to spark Chaminade. Leslie Ciriaco scored 10 points and Sarah Radovich grabbed nine rebounds for Chaminade (4-4).
