Scooter Rider Dies of Crash Injuries

A 56-year-old Stanton man died of his injuries early Friday, after a car ran a red light and collided with his motor scooter Thursday afternoon, police said.

Paul LaMont Abbett was heading west on Lakeview Drive through the intersection at Euclid Street about 4:45 p.m., police said. Witnesses told police a northbound Acura ran the light and hit Abbett’s Honda scooter, throwing him from it, police said.

Abbett was wearing a helmet but sustained serious head injuries and died at UCI Medical Center in Orange at 5:30 a.m. Friday, police said.

The coroner’s office has been unable to reach Abbett’s family and is asking for the public’s help in contacting them. Anyone with information is asked to call the deputy coroner at (714) 647-7400.

The Acura driver has not been cited, but police are investigating the crash.
