Kennedy Wrestlers Win Five Titles at Empire League Finals

Kennedy wrestlers won championships in five weight classes Thursday at the Empire League finals at El Dorado High.

Kennedy’s winners were Richie Carrillo (112 pounds), Richard Feistman (135), Don Kim (140), Eduardo Martinez (145) and Aaron Cross (160).

El Dorado had 11 wrestlers qualify for the upcoming Southern Section individual meet, including league champions Matt Dohm (152) and Devin Chavez (215).

In the Sunset League finals:

Fountain Valley edges Esperanza--Fountain Valley’s Clint Chin defeated Johhny Bielat of Esperanza, 13-11, at 119 pounds, and the Barons finished first with 166 points. Esperanza was second with 152.5 points.

At 160 pounds, Eric Padilla, also from Fountain Valley, defeated Esperanza’s Matt Schmidt, 5-2.

Paul DeVries (189) and Patrick Odle (130) also won for Fountain Valley.

In Freeway League wrestling:

Troy 169, Buena Park 166--Down by 38 points going into the finals, Troy (4-0-1) rallied back to take the victory and the Freeway League title.

In the Garden Grove League boys’ basketball:

La Quinta 65, Bolsa Grande 43--Scott Ogilvie had 20 points and 16 rebounds as La Quinta defeated Bolsa Grande (19-16, 4-8) to clinch the league title. Teammate Chris Smith had 19 points.

La Quinta outscored Bolsa Grande, 19-8, in the first quarter.

Los Amigos 80, Santiago 60--Shaun Tagatauli scored 17 points to lead Los Amigos (13-12, 7-5), which finished third in league.

In nonleague boys’ basketball:

St. Margaret’s 42, La Jolla Country Day 41--St. Margaret’s led by five after three quarters and then held on at La Jolla. Josh Del Pino scored 12 points and Dylan Gilbert and Peter Larson each had 10 for the Tartans (10-11).
