Wilborn’s 25 Points Spark SCC Over Fresno Pacific

Terrence Wilborn scored 25 points to help Southern California College defeat Fresno Pacific, 91-79, in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday at SCC.

Rod Scheuerman added 16 points and Adam Dzierzynski had 15 points, seven assists and four steals for the Vanguards (21-7, 8-3 in conference), who are tied for second place with Biola (23-4, 8-3). First-place Azusa Pacific (22-7, 9-2) defeated Westmont, 83-79, Tuesday.

Jake Weathers had 21 points and nine rebounds for Fresno Pacific (18-8, 7-4).

In another conference game:

Point Loma Nazarene 91, Concordia 85--Concordia led, 58-45, with 12 minutes 25 seconds remaining, but Brett Psilopoulos, who had 34 points, keyed a 15-0 run to begin the Crusaders’ comeback.

Psilopoulos made 11 of 13 field goals and five of six free throws in the final 37 seconds to seal the victory for Point Loma (8-17, 3-8).

Rick Haywood scored 26 points, including four three-pointers, for Concordia (11-15, 4-7).

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:

Concordia 75, Point Loma Nazarene 66--Angela Sather scored 25 points and Heather Carll had 23 points and 13 rebounds for first-place Concordia (23-5, 8-1), which posted its 11th consecutive victory.

Southern California College 48, Fresno Pacific 46--Alana Kempton made the game-winning shot with six seconds remaining to give SCC (17-8, 5-5) its first women’s basketball victory over Fresno Pacific (13-11, 4-5).

In a nonconference game:

Chapman 84, Redlands 75--Lyndsay Brown had 23 points and nine rebounds and Stef McNamara added 20 points and nine rebounds for host Chapman (18-5). Sonia Delgado scored 29 points for Redlands (8-12).

In nonconference baseball:

Hawaii Pacific 8, Concordia 7--Deric Yanagisawa, from Orange Coast College and Fountain Valley High, hit a two-run double for visiting Hawaii Pacific (8-7), which trailed, 5-3, before rallying with a five-run seventh inning.

Matt France had two hits and four RBIs for Concordia (4-6).

Chapman 8, Claremont 4--Robert O’Brien’s two-run triple highlighted a five-run first for Chapman (3-2), which beat Claremont (5-4), ranked 18th in the nation. Relief pitcher Justin Miner, who stopped a Claremont rally in the fifth, struck out seven in 4 1/3 innings.
