Telling Apart Poly’s Jeffries Twins Easier Than Beating Freshmen Stars

Here’s one good reason the Poly High girls’ basketball team has won twice as many Valley Pac-8 Conference games as last season: twins.

Clara and Quiana Jeffries are 5-foot-7 identical twins who helped the Parrots (11-9) clinch the East Valley League title, finishing four games ahead of second-place Reseda. Together, the freshmen are averaging more than 25 points and 15 rebounds.

“I’m hoping they stay,” Coach Lou Goodman said “It’s rumored that they might go to Palisades [next year].”

Before the season, the twins were projected starters for the junior varsity team. But it wasn’t long before they were starting for the varsity squad.

Ciara, a point guard who averages a team-high 14.5 points, has averaged 20 points in the last five games.

Goodman still has trouble telling the twins apart. On the court, however, it’s like night and day.

“I can [tell them apart] because one wears black Nike shoes and the other one wears white,” Goodman said.

For the record, Ciara wears the black shoes.
