Patterson’s Bat Carries Concordia

Derek Patterson’s two-run single in the sixth helped Concordia to a 4-1 victory over Patten College in a nonconference baseball game Thursday at Concordia.

Matt Johnson (1-0) made his first start on the mound for the Eagles and gave up one run on seven hits. Matt Marquart, Ken Wilka and James Maddock combined to keep the Lions (0-10) hitless over the final four innings.

Patterson had three hits as Concordia improved to 5-6.

In another nonconference baseball game:

Southern California College 6, Metro (Colo.) State 2--Donnie Zeigler (3-0) gave up five hits over six innings and Josh Steele pitched three inning of scoreless relief for SCC (8-4).

In nonconference softball:

Cal State Dominguez Hills 5-3, Southern California College 0-2 (8)--Adriana Paz pitched a two-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader for Dominguez Hills (9-5). Paz also pitched a complete game in the second game. Isela Ahumada had an RBI single to win the second game for the Toros.
