Wolverines Overcome Slow Start

Corrie Roberts scored 18 points and helped Harvard-Westlake High erase a five-point halftime deficit en route to a 54-50 victory over Estancia in the first round of the Southern Section Division III-A girls’ basketball playoffs Thursday night at Harvard-Westlake.

The Wolverines (19-6) outscored Estancia, 21-6, in the third quarter to take a 43-33 lead. Brooke Porter scored 16 points for Harvard-Westlake.

Girls’ basketball--The wrong score was given in Friday’s story on the girls’ basketball game between Harvard-Westlake and Estancia high schools. Harvard-Westlake won, 54-40.

Estancia fell to 16-10.

Nordhoff 63, South Pasadena 40--Nell Becker had 21 points, 11 assists and seven steals and Erin Barker added 19 points for the Rangers (21-4) in a Division III-A game at Nordhoff.

Bethel Christian 55, West Valley Christian 31--Jenny Aceves had 18 and 12 rebounds and Emily Jackson had 12 points and 18 rebounds for the Eagles (11-11) in a Division V-A game at Bethel Christian.

Kristen Mowers and Joy Johnson each had eight points for West Valley Christian (4-9).

Duarte 69, La Canada 61--Terrie Doizaki scored 25 points and Ginger Calub added 15 for the host Spartans (15-10) in a Division III-A loss.

Apple Valley 74, Grace Bretheren 36--Crystal Roberts had 14 points and Heidi Ziegler 10 for the Lancers in a Division V-A game at Apple Valley, but Grace Bretheren couldn’t overcome a 26-4 deficit after the first quarter. Bethany Bracy had 40 points for Apple Valley (17-2). Grace Bretheren finished 13-7.

Campbell Hall 51, Valley Torah 38--Josh Glass had 22 points and seven assists to lead the Vikings (13-12) in a Division V-AA game at Campbell Hall.

Ronnie Polk added 13 points for Campbell Hall.

Benji Appel and Mike Zaghi each scored 11 points for Valley Torah (10-10).
