Titans Top Fresno State in Baseball

Brian Tokarse gave up two runs on four hits in eight innings and struck out nine in his first start this season for 15th-ranked Cal State Fullerton, which recorded their sixth straight victory over Fresno State, 3-2, in a nonconference game at Fresno.

Giuseppe Chiaramonte hit a two-run homer for his seventh of the season in the second inning to put Fresno State (5-10) up, 2-0.

In the sixth inning, Jerome Alviso and Mike Lamb had consecutive singles. Nakia Hill doubled with two outs to drive in two runs and C.J. Ankrum followed with a single to give the Titans a 3-2 lead.

Brandon Duckworth posted his third save of season with a relief appearance in the ninth, allowing no hits while striking out one. The Titans are 9-7 and Tokarse is 2-0.

In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:

Southern California College 10, Concordia 9--Rob Pegg had three hits and three runs batted in as Southern California College defeated Concordia (6-9). Kevin Doyle and Kevin Moore also had three hits each for the Vanguards.

After Concordia scored four runs in the bottom of the eight inning to cut the lead to 10-9, the Vanguards handed the game to reliever Daniel Villareal.

Villareal kept the Eagles hitless for two innings and struck out four for his 1st save of the season.

In nonconference softball:

Southern California College 1-9, CS Dominguez Hills 4-2--Pitcher Gretchen Brandt went three for four at the plate with two RBIs and one run scored in game two for SCC (3-10-1). Brandt went the distance, striking out six and allowing one earned run.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:

Point Loma Nazarene 85, Southern California College 84 (OT)--Carrie Burt scored 20 to go with seven assists and Elaine Whittemore had 19 points and 11 rebounds for Southern California College (17-10, 5-7). SCC made 10 of 11 free throws in the first half, but went cold in the second half, making just seven of 15.

Concordia 98, Cal Baptist 78--Angela Sather made 16 of 19 free-throws to help Concordia clinch the conference title. The Eagles (25-5, 10-1) have won 13 consecutive games.

Heather Carll was 11 of 16 from the field and finished with 29 points for the Eagles.

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball:

Point Loma Nazarene 80, Southern California College 59--Robert Amo Amo scored 15 points in a victory for Point Loma Nazarene (10-17, 5-8). Teammate Chad Urie had 13 points.

Rod Scheuerman and Justin McIntee each scored 11 points for Southern California College (21-9, 8-5). Marlon Watson had 10 rebounds for the Vanguards.
