100-MPH Chase Ends in Crash, Man’s Arrest

A man who raced away from a police traffic stop led officers on a winding chase Wednesday that ended when he clipped another car and crashed at a busy intersection.
The chase reached speeds of more than 100 mph before the suspect lost control of his car, hopped a curb and hit a sign at Sunflower Avenue and Main Street about 3:30 p.m., according to Irvine Police Sgt. Ron Flathers.
A Nissan Sentra was rear-ended by the speeding car and spun across the Main Street intersection. Two women in the car complained of body pain but were not hospitalized, officials said.
The chase began on Culver Drive near Barranca Parkway, where Flathers said he stopped the care for a traffic violation. The man refused to turn the engine off and then drove off, Flathers said.
The driver had no identification and police were attempting Wednesday to get his name through fingerprint records, Flathers said. The man also appeared to be under the influence of drugs, and blood tests were underway, according to police.
