A 40-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed two men who saw him chasing some neighborhood children down the street with a pair of scissors and tried to intervene, police said Monday.

Charles Woodbury of Westminster is being held in Orange County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and assaulting two police officers who arrested him, Lt. Mike Schliskey said.

Officers were summoned about 3 p.m. Sunday to the 7200 block of Wyoming Street, where they found two men who had been stabbed. The men told investigators they were trying to stop another man who was chasing several children with a pair of scissors, Schliskey said.

Daniel Grody, 40, of Westminster, suffered at least 15 stab wounds and multiple lacerations and was transported to UCI Medical Center. He was in stable condition Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Bill Webb, 54, also of Westminster, was treated at the scene for a stab wound in the forearm and several bites.

When police arrived, they found the suspect nearby, and as they approached him, he threatened them with a stick and a steel bar, Schliskey said.

“Following a brief fight with the officers, Woodbury was detained,” Schliskey said.

The officers were not seriously injured, and Woodbury was arrested after being treated for minor injuries at Columbia Huntington Beach Hospital and Medical Center, Schliskey said.
