Rio Mesa Has a Little Extra in 1-0 Victory

Jessica Brown scored on Rhianna Rogers’ single in the eighth inning and Rio Mesa High beat Hueneme, 1-0, in a Channel League softball game Friday at Rio Mesa.

Brown tripled to lead off for the Spartans (3-0, 1-0 in league play), ranked sixth in the region by The Times.

After two intentional walks were issued by Hueneme to load the bases, Rogers singled in the winning run.

Verdugo Hills 9, Eagle Rock 0--Kim Wood and Gina Ables combined on a no-hitter for the Dons in the third-place game of the Hoover tournament at Pelanconi Park.

Rian Standley and Gaby Robles had three RBIs for the Dons (6-1).

El Camino Real 10, Sylmar 0--Sophomore Ashley Redlin (3-2) pitched a no-hitter and struck out 12 for the Conquistadores (7-2) at Sylmar.

Calabasas 13, Nordhoff 0--Kelly Cheever had five RBIs in a Frontier League game at Calabasas.

Jessica Armacost added three hits for the Coyotes (2-6, 1-1).

Anaheim Foothill 12, Hoover 0--The Tornadoes (5-3), ranked fifth in the region by The Times, were routed in the championship game of the Hoover tournament when Foothill scored nine runs in the first.

Diane K. Lee doubled for Hoover in the seventh to break up a no-hitter.

St. Bonaventure 6, Channel Islands 0--Dolly Villa pitched a one-hitter, striking out seven for the Seraphs (6-3) at St. Bonaventure.

Village Christian 6, Canyon 2--Sarah Wheeler hit a grand slam in the first inning and Laura Robbins had two hits and the Crusaders (5-3) took third place in the Duarte tournament.

Moorpark 11, Malibu 1--Tracey Milburn had four hits and stole five bases, and Lisa Estill and T.C. Plante each had three hits for the Musketeers (2-2, 1-0) in a Frontier League game at Moorpark.

Alemany 16, Antelope Valley 0; Alemany 9, Stockdale 1--Kim Diener (5-3) pitched a six-inning no-hitter, striking out five for the Indians (5-3) in pool play of the Lancaster tournament.

She had four hits and five RBIs, including a three-run home run.

Diener pitched a six-inning three-hitter against Stockdale.
