Can they go distance? Distance runners Ryan Wilson of the University of Arkansas and Amy Skieresz of Arizona, former state cross-country champions for Agoura High, have been tabbed to win individual titles in the NCAA outdoor track and field championships by Track & Field News magazine.
Wilson, runner-up in the 3,000 in the NCAA indoor championships earlier this month, is picked to win the men’s 5,000 in the NCAA championships at Bloomington, Ind., on June 4-7.
Skieresz, the 1996 NCAA cross-country champion and the 1997 NCAA indoor champion in the women’s 5,000, is favored to win the 5,000 outdoors and complete a rare triple crown.
Disc record: Cheree Hicks of Cal State Northridge has been selected as the Big Sky Conference women’s field-event performer of the week.
Hicks, a freshman from Littlerock High, set a school record of 172 feet 1 inch in the discus to place third in Saturday’s Northridge Invitational.
