Super Flyweight Espino Pulls Out of April 7 Bout at the Pond

Super flyweight Cecilio Espino of Orange has pulled out of his scheduled 10-round bout April 7 at the Pond with Miguel Granados of Mexico City, Forum Boxing Inc. announced Monday. Espino will be replaced by Alejandro Montiel (33-3) of Los Mochis, Mexico.

The 10-round junior middleweight bout between Victor Maciel and Keith Mullings also was canceled. It will be replaced by a fight between Colombia’s Jorge Eliecer Julio (35-1) and an opponent to be named. The main event between junior lightweight Carlos Hernandez and Bernard Harris is still on.

Adam Dzierzynski of Southern California College, received honorable mention honors when the NAIA Division I men’s basketball All-American team was announced.

Dzierzynski, a 6-foot junior point guard from Dove Canyon, led the Golden State Athletic Conference in assists, averaging 13.8. He graduated from Santa Margarita High, then spent two years at Chapman University, where he was named to the Division III All-West team as a sophomore.

Kent Wiese of Huntington Beach shot four-under-par 68 to win the Simple Green/Pacific Golf Tour event Monday at SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach. Wiese won $1,100.

Brad Gallagher of Valencia and Steve Haase of San Diego tied for second at two-under 70 and Kirk Rose of San Clemente and Steve Runge of Mission Viejo were two of five players who tied for fourth at 73.

The United States will defend its gold medal against national teams from 12 countries. Tickets for preliminary-round games at Disney ICE are $8 for adults and $4 for youths ages 12 and under. Tickets for the semifinals (July 25) and the bronze- and gold-medal games (July 25) at the Pond range from $6 to $18 for adults, $2 and $14 for youths.
