Archer’s Key Hit Leads Marina Past Servite in Semifinals

Phil Archer’s two-run single in the top of the sixth gave Marina a 5-4 victory over Servite Tuesday in a Wienerschnitzel Big West Tournament baseball semifinal at Windrow Park in Irvine.

Marina (8-5), advances to the championship game against University, which beat Trabuco Hills, 10-2, in the other semifinal. That championship game will be at 7:30 tonight at Windrow Park.

In a consolation game of the tournament:

El Toro 11, Long Beach Millikan 10--Clemente Bonilla hit a two-out grand slam in the sixth inning to put El Toro ahead for good. The junior shortstop was three for five with six RBIs and three runs scored. Matt Steinau also had three hits for El Toro.

In the Santa Ana Elks Tournament:

La Quinta 6, La Puente Nogales 2--Sophomore Steve Lee pitched a complete game, giving up six hits and no walks, striking out four for La Quinta (12-3), which advanced to the championship game. Maury Aldrup had two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Aztecs.

In consolation games:

Baldwin Park 4, Santa Ana Valley 3--Ruben Burciaga’s RBI single with the bases loaded in seventh inning led Baldwin Park past Santa Ana Valley (7-5). Baldwin Park (9-4) scored three runs in the seventh inning.

Saddleback 8, Santa Ana 7--Winning pitcher Elias Pinedo went four for four and Jose Gonzalez had a home run and three RBIs for Saddleback (6-6).
