Meet the Cookbook Authors

Join the Food Section and some of your favorite cookbook authors April 19-20 at the 2nd annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at UCLA’s Dickson Plaza. The festivities include three special panel discussions and three cooking demonstrations.

Saturday

April 19

*10:30 a.m. New Orleans chef and Food Network host Emeril Lagasse has a one-on-one conversation with Times Food Editor Laurie Ochoa. Bring your questions. Book signing follows.

*5 p.m. Emeril returns, this time to cook a Cajun or Creole favorite or two during a live demonstration.

Sunday

April 20

*Noon. Border Grill (Santa Monica) chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, also known as the Food Network’s “Too Hot Tamales,” demonstrate their eclectic way with food.

*1:30 p.m. Italian cookbook authors Giuliano Bugialli, Biba Caggiano and Viana La Place join Times Food writer Russ Parsons for a discussion of Italian cooking in America. Book signings follow.

*3 p.m. How does a chef’s cooking change when it’s destined for the cookbook page instead of the restaurant plate? Find out when Times Food Editor Laurie Ochoa leads a panel discussion with chefs/cookbook authors Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger (Border Grill), Todd English (Boston’s Olives restaurant), Evan Kleiman (Hollywood’s Angeli Caffe) and Hans Rockenwagner (Santa Monica’s Rockenwagner restaurant).

*3 p.m. Biba Caggiano, chef and host of the Learning Channel’s “Biba’s Italian Kitchen,” cooks Italian before a live audience.

Admission to the festival is free, but for those who wish to ensure seating at the author panels, free tickets will be available starting Sunday at these Ticketmaster locations: the Pantages Theater, 6233 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, and all Tower Records, Tower Video and Ritmo Latino record locations. Free tickets will also be available at the festival. (Tickets are not required for children’s events or other special programming.)
