Piersoll Pitches Complete Game to Turn Back Golden West, 7-3

Chris Piersoll pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts to help Fullerton beat visiting Golden West, 7-3, Tuesday in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game.

Golden West (11-20, 3-11) was ahead at the end of the fourth, 3-2, but Fullerton came back to score a run in the fifth and sixth innings and three runs in the seventh. Fullerton is 19-16, 5-11.

Nick Garcia had a double and two runs batted in for Fullerton. Teammates Bo Bryant went two for four with two RBIs, a double and a home run and Brian Logan hit his ninth homer of the season.

In other conference games:

Cypress 6, Riverside 2 (10)--Junior Rodriguez had two hits and a run for Cypress (26-7, 9-5).

The loss was the first this season for Riverside’s Cody Trask (8-1), who pitched all 10 innings.

Saddleback 7, Orange Coast 3--Saddleback scored four runs in the third inning.

Orange Coast (11-21, 3-11), which has lost seven straight, scored three runs in the sixth to make it 5-3, but Greg Farrell’s ninth-inning homer put the game away for the Gauchos (28-5, 11-5)

In nonconference baseball:

Rancho Santiago 12, Compton 2--Josh Reding had four hits, two RBIs and two runs in a nonconference victory for Rancho Santiago (31-2-1). Ryan Blackmun had three hits, two RBIs and two runs for the Dons.

Eric Sobek hit two doubles for Rancho Santiago.

In Orange Empire Conference golf:

Saddleback remains unbeaten--Eric Wang shot a par 72 and teammate Mike McGinley finished with a 73 as the Gauchos improved to 8-0 in conference play with the victory at Tijeras Creek. It was only the second loss for Cuyamaca (8-2), both against Saddleback.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Orange Coast 8, Riverside 1--Nhan Truong and Andy Rebulio-Dangelo swept their singles matches and then teamed for a 6-2, 6-2 doubles victory for Orange Coast (8-7, 5-6).

Saddleback 8, Fullerton 1--Kunio Koga won in singles for Saddleback (14-3, 9-1). Matt Moore also won in singles, 6-0, 6-0.

In the Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:

Saddleback 8, Fullerton 1--Gabi Rios won in singles, 7-6, 7-5, for Saddleback (11-4, 10-0). Mariska Handoya and Eileen Balanza won in doubles, 8-2, to record the only point for Fullerton (3-11, 2-9).
