Corona del Mar Defeats No. 8 Woodbridge Boys

Although Corona del Mar won only five events, it still managed to beat Woodbridge, ranked eighth in Orange County, 69-67, in a Sea View League boys’ track and field meet Thursday at Corona del Mar.

Tyler Beardslee won the 800 (2 minutes 6.4 seconds) and 1,600 meters (4:42.4) and finished third in the 3,200.

Anthony Valanos won three events for Woodbridge. He equaled his season-best mark in the long jump (20 feet 4 inches) and won the 110 hurdles (15.9) and 300 hurdles (43.9).

In the Garden Grove League:

Rancho Alamitos 77, La Quinta 36--Nam Nguyen won the 100, 200, and anchored the winning 400 relay for Rancho Alamitos (3-1).

Garden Grove 87, Pacifica 40--Chris Ko won the 100, 200, and anchored the 400 relay, which won for Garden Grove (3-0).

In the Golden West League:

Tustin 88, Servite 50--Dominique DeGrammont won the 100 hurdles (14.0) and 300 hurdles (42.6) for Tustin (2-0 in league), the county’s top-ranked team. Servite’s Kurt Vollers won the discus (172-6) and shot put (52-8 1/4).

Saddleback 85, Westminster 46--Donald Jefferson won the 1,600 (4:44.6) and the 3,200 (10:19.3) for Saddleback (3-0, 2-0 in league). Teammate Juan Lomelli won the 110 hurdles (15.0) and 300 hurdles (41.6).

Santa Ana 75, Ocean View 57--Christian Acosta won the shot put (49-9) and discus (135-6 1/2) for Ocean View (0-3, 0-2).

In the Orange League:

Magnolia 80, Western 46--Ricardo Puentes won the 200 with a time of 22.7 and anchored the mile-relay team for Magnolia (1-2, 0-2). Ricardo Adame won the 110 hurdles (16.6) and 330 hurdles (44.7) for the Sentinels.

Brea Olinda 81, Anaheim 51--Jim Norum of fourth-ranked Brea Olinda (2-0, 8-1) broke his school record in the discus 174-2) with a throw of 176-4 at Anaheim.

Savanna 98, Valencia 34--Savanna’s MacArthur Cutright won the high jump (5-4), long jump (19-6) and triple jump (38-11) and teammate David Hernandez won the 100 (10.8) and 220 (24.0).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 98, Laguna Beach 28--Ethan Friend won the 800 (2:12.0), 1,600 (4:51.0) and 3,200 (11:05.0) for host Aliso Niguel.

Laguna Hills 100, University 31--Pete Morello won the 200 (22.9), 400 (49.9) and anchored the winning 1,600 relay team for Laguna Beach (3-1, 2-0).

In the South Coast League:

Trabuco Hills 69, Capistrano Valley 67--Jason Manhart won the 800, 1,600, and finished second in the 3,200 for Trabuco Hills (2-0 in league).

Capistrano Valley is 0-2 in league.

In an Empire League girls’ track and field meet:

El Dorado 81, Cypress 46--Joy Simpson won the mile (5:43.0) and two-mile (12:37.0) for El Dorado (2-0).

In the Garden Grove League:

Rancho Alamitos 109, La Quinta 17--Natasha Drayden won the 100, 200, triple jump, and anchored the winning 400 relay team for Rancho Alamitos (3-1).

In the Golden West League:

Rosary 77, Tustin 54--Junior Gianna Laiola won the 400 in a school-record time (1:02.1) and also won the 200 (27.2) for host Rosary (2-0 in league).

Truc Tran won the 800 (2:30.5) and 1,600 (5:41.0) for Tustin.

Saddleback 90, Westminster 37--Julieata Moran won the 800 (2:33.0) and the 1,600 (5:35.0) for Saddleback (2-0 in league). Kathy Held won the 100 hurdles (16-6) and 300 hurdles for Saddleback.

Santa Ana 93, Ocean View 42--Sophomore Jessica Bradosky won the discus (101-1) for Ocean View (0-3, 0-2).

In the Orange League:

Brea Olinda 89, Anaheim 47--Sarah Bonilla won the 100-meter hurdles (17.2), 330-yard hurdles (49.6) and ran on the winning 440 relay team for Brea (4-3, 2-0).

Savanna 77, Valencia 49--Quiana Starr and Madelyn Valdes each won three events for Savanna (1-1 in league). Starr won the 100 (12.2), 220 (28.8) and the long jump (16-7). Valdes won the 110 hurdles (18.3), 330 hurdles (51.7) and triple jump (33-10). Kai Starr won the high jump (4-6) and the shot put (30-4) for Savanna.

Western 74, Magnolia 51--Ebony Dozier won the 100 (12.6) and 200 (26.5) for Western. Ruth Cortez won the 1,600 and the 3,200 and Etta Jackson won the shot put and the discus for Magnolia (1-2, 0-2).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 84, Laguna Beach 43--Anne Lee won the discus (115-0) and shot put (29-0) for host Aliso Niguel (2-0 in league).

Laguna Hills 76, University 60--Nicole Burke won the 100 (13.1) and anchored the 400 relay team for Laguna Hills (2-2, 2-0).

In the Sea View League:

Newport Harbor 80, El Toro 56--M.E. Clayton won the long jump (15-9), triple jump (34-7 3/4) and 100 hurdles (16.3) for visiting Newport Harbor (1-1 in league).

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 96, Trabuco Hills 37--Jessica Lyons won the long jump, triple jump, and anchored the winning 400 relay, for Capistrano Valley (2-3, 1-1).
