Thompson, Woodbridge Beat Marina in Softball

Nicole Thompson singled in Lizzy Lemire in the sixth inning to give Woodbridge a 2-1 victory over Marina in girls’ nonleague softball Friday at Marina.

Lemire tripled to set up the winning run for the third-ranked Warriors (19-2).

Tracy Alcarez pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts for Woodbridge.

In other nonleague softball:

Los Angeles Baptist 1, St. Margaret’s 0--Michelle Peterson pitched a four-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts for Los Angeles Baptist (8-1). Abbey Arnold pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts for St. Margaret’s (8-2). She walked in the winning run in top of the third inning.

Rosary 4, Lakewood St. Joseph’s 1--Erin Connors doubled in the go-ahead run in a four-run seventh for Rosary (11-4). Christy Ledford (6-4) gave up one run on six hits and struck out four for Rosary.

Upland 1, Whittier Christian 0--Celina Camarillo (1-3) pitched a two-hitter, striking out four. She had the only hit for Whittier Christian (6-8).

Westminster 10, Downey St. Matthias 0 (6, mercy rule)--Brenda Quinn (4-2) pitched a no-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead Westminster (9-4-1).

In Empire League golf:

El Dorado 215, Cypress 220--Steven Sterry was the medalist with a four-over-par 35 for Cypress (2-2 in league) at Western Hills. Corey Fox and David Perez each shot a 40 for El Dorado (9-2, 2-0).

In Orange League tennis:

Brea Olinda 21, Anaheim 0--Jeremy White won his matches, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and Eugene Ro also swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for Brea (5-7, 1-1).

Valencia 12 1/2, Savanna 8 1/2--Chris Tobolski won in singles, 6-1, 6-3, to lead Valencia (2-0 in league).

In Garden Grove League boys’ volleyball:

Bolsa Grande 3, Pacifica 1--Jeff Aichelman had 13 kills and Matt Mason added 11 for visiting Bolsa Grande (9-2, 5-0), which won, 15-9, 15-10, 12-15, 16-14.

La Quinta 3, Santiago 0--Scott Ogilvie had 19 kills and Daniel Almazan added 12 kills for host La Quinta (7-2, 5-0), which won 15-12, 15-11, 15-6.

In the Golden West League:

Servite 3, Saddleback 1--Alvin Magcasi and Hai Nguyen each had nine kills for Saddleback (6-2, 1-1), which won, 15-3, 15-7, 7-15, 15-10.

Servite improves to 4-5 and 2-1 in league.

Tustin 3, Ocean View 1--Aaron Sizer had 23 kills and Kevin Kowalski had 14 in Tustin’s 15-7, 11-15, 15-0, 15-10 victory. Casey Winn had 47 assists for the Tillers. Kevin Nimmons had 18 kills for Ocean View (4-3, 1-2). Tustin is 6-1, 1-2).

Westminster 3, Santa Ana 0--Jared Barnes had 13 kills and Junior Tau added 12 for host Westminster (5-5, 1-2), which won, 15-8, 15-13, 15-4.

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 3, Orange Lutheran 0--David Engle had nine kills for Calvary Chapel, which won, 15-1, 15-4, 15-7.

In the Pacific Coast league:

University 3, Laguna Hills 2--Jon Cheng had 17 kills and David Lin had 14 for University, which won, 17-15, 15-13, 15-6.

In the Sea View league:

Newport Harbor 3, El Toro 0--Scott Archbold had 20 kills to lead the Sailors in their 15-7, 16-14, 15-8 victory. Dana Mesenbrink added 15 for Newport Harbor (4-4, 1-1).

In the South Coast League:

San Clemente 3, Mission Viejo 2--Peter Jordan had 21 kills to lead San Clemente, which won, 4-15, 15-6, 12-15, 15-11, 15-11.

Gabe Burt had 32 kills for Mission Viejo.

In the Sunset League:

Esperanza 3, Edison 0--Dan Harrington had 22 kills to help Esperanza win, 15-11, 15-10, 15-12.
