Durazo Puts the Arm on Cleveland, 14-1

Sandra Durazo pitched a one-hitter and struck out 14 for Kennedy High in a 14-1 victory over Cleveland in a Northwest Valley Conference softball game on Tuesday.

Durazo (13-1), The Times’ 1996 Valley player of the year, had three hits, including a three-run home run, for the Golden Cougars (13-1, 5-0 in conference play).

Granada Hills 7, San Fernando 4--Amber Dattilo had two hits, including a three-run home run, for the Highlanders (8-5, 3-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Granada Hills.

El Camino Real 13, Birmingham 2--Ramona Shelburne had two hits, including a triple, and two runs batted in for the Conquistadores (11-3, 4-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Birmingham (1-9, 0-5) called after six innings by coaches’ agreement.

Verdugo Hills 7, Eagle Rock 1--Kim Wood pitched a three-hitter, struck out 15 and hit a run-scoring triple for the Dons (16-2, 5-0) in a Northern Conference game at Eagle Rock.

Thousand Oaks 10, Royal 0--Jennifer Sharron (8-2) pitched a one-hitter and struck out 12 for the Lancers (10-2, 4-1) in a Marmonte League game at Rancho Simi Park.

Simi Valley 6, Agoura 5--Karen LaBlanc’s two-out single in the top of the seventh broke a 5-5 tie and lifted the Pioneers (11-2, 4-1) in a Marmonte League game at Agoura.

Crescenta Valley 10, Pasadena 0--Melinda Moulden (11-3) struck out eight in a six-inning no-hitter for the Falcons (13-3) in a Pacific League opener at Pasadena that was called because of the 10-run rule.

Hoover 23, Muir 0--Karla Nanne had three home runs and seven RBIs and Cori Herbert (9-3) allowed no hits and struck out 12 in a Pacific League opener called after 4 1/2 innings.

Glendale 5, Arcadia 4--Katie Gallagher’s two-run single in the fifth keyed a five-run rally for the Dynamiters (7-5) in a Pacific League opener.

Saugus 5, Canyon 0--Shannon McRoy had a two-run single for the Centurions (13-5) in a Foothill League opener at Saugus.

Hart 10, Burbank 0--Anna Nordhagen had three hits for the Indians (13-3) in a Foothill League opener at Olive Park.

Valencia 3, Burroughs 0--Michelle Smith (6-5) pitched a two-hitter for the Vikings (9-7) in a Foothill League opener.

Palmdale 2, Highland 1--Cheri Smith doubled and scored the winning run on a throwing error in the fifth for the Falcons (8-5, 1-0) in a Golden League game at Palmdale.

La Reina 10, Carpinteria 0--Kristen Ward pitched a no-hitter and struck out 12 for the Regents (6-4-1) in a Tri-Valley game called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Calabasas 16, Nordhoff 0-- Heather Bell hit a grand slam and Sara Hall had a three-run triple for the Coyotes (4-8, 3-3) in a Frontier League game.

Malibu 4, Moorpark 2--The Sharks (6-3, 4-2) scored three runs in the sixth aided by two errors to beat the Musketeers (7-4, 5-1) in a Frontier League game.
