Santa Margarita Football Players Choose Colleges

Three more players from Division V football champion Santa Margarita have picked colleges, Coach Jim Hartigan said.

Hartigan said receiver/defensive back Billy O’Connor will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy, tight end Chris Long is headed to University of San Diego and defensive end Austin Jayred has signed with UC Davis.

Nick Russell, the Century League champion in cross-country from Orange High, has committed to attend Utah State, Panther Coach Don Burnette said. Russell ran 15 minutes 13 seconds over three miles to finish as the runner-up in the Orange County Championships last fall and earned Times’ first-team all-county honors.
