Mater Dei 1, Mission Viejo 0--Fourth-ranked Mater Dei (13-3, 1-0) scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh and freshman Tia Bollinger (6-2) pitched a two-hitter, striking out 11.

In Century League girls’ swimming:

Villa Park 97 1/2, Canyon 72 1/2--The winning 400 freestyle relay team for sixth-ranked Villa Park--Jessica Klugman, Kimber Davis, Sarah Gertler and Maureen Dunn--set a school record with a time of 3:46.71, breaking the old mark of 3:47.10.

Canyon is ranked eighth in the county.

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

Woodbridge 14, Laguna Beach 4--Laguna Beach’s Aaron Talarico, who was 39-0 entering the match, lost to David Lingman, 6-2, and Adam Artunian, 6-4, of top-ranked Woodbridge (14-0).

In Garden Grove League boys’ volleyball:

Bolsa Grande 3, La Quinta 1--Jeff Aichelman had 24 kills to help Bolsa Grande (10-2, 6-0) win for the first time against La Quinta (7-3, 5-1), 13-15, 15-13, 15-12, 15-13.

In the Sunset League:

Esperanza 3, Huntington Beach 2--Jon Alleman had 27 kills for Esperanza (7-1, 3-0), ranked second in the county, which upset top-ranked Huntington Beach, (8-1, 2-1), 15-11, 10-15, 12-15, 15-13, 15-7.
