Newbury Park Fells Thousand Oaks, 72-64

Jenny Kenyon won three events and helped win the 400 relay for Newbury Park, which beat Thousand Oaks for the first time since 1979 in a Marmonte League girls’ track and field meet, 72-64, on Thursday at Newbury Park.

Kenyon, a junior, timed 12.5 in the 100 meters and 26.4 in the 200, leaped 16 feet 3 3/4 in the long jump and ran the third leg on the 400 relay team that timed 52.2.

Newbury Park (7-0, 5-0 in league meets) clinched its victory over the three-time defending league champions by winning the 1,600 relay--the final event.

Amanda Armstrong won the 800 in 2:27.4 and the 1,600 in 5:20.0 for the Lancers (4-1, 4-1).

Notre Dame 94, Louisville 29--Sophomore Tiffany Thompson won the 200 in 24.7, the 400 in a season-best of 57.6 and ran a leg on the victorious 400 relay for the Knights (5-0, 4-0) in a Mission League meet at Notre Dame.

BOYS’ TRACK

Thousand Oaks 71, Newbury Park 65--The Panthers (5-2, 4-1) appeared to have a 70-66 victory after winning the 1,600 relay, but Newbury Park anchor Pat Dolan was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct because of an excessive celebration.

Dolan won the 400 in 51.8 and the 300 intermediate hurdles in 42.4.

John Haskell won the 800 in 2:01.8 and the 1,600 in 4:33.0 for Thousand Oaks (4-1, 4-1).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Monroe d. Van Nuys, 15-8, 2-15, 15-10, 4-15, 15-13--Carlos Solis had 21 kills and Elmer Flamenco had 16 for the Vikings (6-4, 6-1) in the Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Van Nuys.

Larry Najera had 30 kills for Van Nuys (8-2, 6-1), which played without outside hitter Allen Chiu, who sprained his left ankle in Saturday’s Tournament of Champions.

Grant d. North Hollywood, 15-6, 15-8, 15-3--Eric Gallarza had 11 kills and Steve Ross added 10 kills and five blocks for the Lancers (8-2, 5-2) in a Valley Pac-8 conference match at North Hollywood.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Harvard-Westlake 14, Santa Barbara 4--The No. 1 doubles team of Kamyar Daneshvar and Aron Gortman won three sets to pace a doubles sweep by the Wolverines (7-4) in a nonleague victory over the Dons (6-6) at Santa Barbara.

Granada Hills 7, Chatsworth 0--No. 3 singles player Steve Ishoo defeated Warren Lee, 6-0, 6-0, and the No. 2 doubles team of Lee Weinstein and Ali Fakhari beat Hugo Macias and Denny Chung, 6-1, 6-1, for the Highlanders (9-0, 8-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Granada Hills.

Monroe 7, Sylmar 0--Mark Ranches, Robbie Parras and Danny Rubin scored singles sweeps for the Vikings (9-2, 7-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Sylmar.

The shutout was Monroe’s ninth in 11 matches.
