School Jazz Bands Take Top Honors

Esperanza High School in Anaheim, Edison High School in Huntington Beach, Woodbridge High School in Irvine and Travis Ranch Middle School in Irvine took top honors at the 1997 Youth Expo Jazz Festival this week at the Orange County Fairgrounds.

Esperanza placed first in the open division, Edison in advanced and Woodbridge in the novice division. Travis placed first among junior high schools.

Jazz festival--A story Friday about the results of the 1997 Youth Expo Jazz Festival misidentified the location of Travis Ranch Middle School. The school is in Yorba Linda.

The winners received $300 and an invitation to play at the Orange County Fair, July 11-27 at the fairgrounds in Costa Mesa. Second- and third-place finishers received $250 and $200 respectively.

The Youth Expo focuses on the positive accomplishments of the county’s youth. Categories this year included music, the arts, science and engineering.
