Cypress’ Seibel Upsets El Dorado

Phil Seibel pitched a one-hitter and struck out eight as Cypress upset top-ranked El Dorado, 2-0, in an Empire League baseball game Friday at El Dorado.

Seibel (4-1), who has signed a letter of intent to play at Texas, allowed just one runner to reach third base.

The Centurions (9-7-2, 6-3) got an unearned run in the first and scored the other on a two-out single by Mike Adney in the second. The Golden Hawks are 17-3, 7-2.

In another Empire League game:

Katella 12, Kennedy 9--John Baldridge was two for three with two runs scored and Adam Lawnsdale was two for three with two RBIs and three runs for Katella (12-8, 4-5).

In Century League baseball:

Foothill 9, Orange 0--Chad Concolino was three for four with a home run and a triple, and Oginga Aaron had two hits and four RBIs for first-place Foothill (14-3, 9-0).

Santa Ana Valley 11, El Modena 10 (8)--Jerry Tellez and Danny Montoya each were four for four with three RBIs for Santa Ana Valley (9-10, 2-7). Todd Johnson had three hits and two RBIs for El Modena (5-12-1, 1-8).

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 21, Troy 17--Brandon Rosenthal was four for five with a three-run home run, a double, four RBIs and three runs scored for Fullerton (10-8, 5-4). Troy is 2-7 in league.

Sonora 9, Sunny Hills 4--Ryan Vorell hit two home runs and had four RBIs for ninth-ranked Sonora (16-3, 8-1). The home runs gave Vorell seven this season.

In the Garden Grove League:

Bolsa Grande 13, Los Amigos 5--Joey Francisco and Adam Corona each got their 100th career hit at Bolsa Grande (14-6, 4-3).

La Quinta 8, Pacifica 6--Pacifica scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a one-run lead, but eighth-ranked La Quinta (19-3, 6-1) scored three in the seventh.

Rancho Alamitos 9, Santiago 6--Scot Maxwell (1-1) gave up six runs (five unearned) in the first, but held Santiago scoreless over the next five while striking out six for Rancho Alamitos (6-10, 3-4).

In the Golden West League:

Saddleback 11, Westminster 6--Elias Pinedo was four for four with a triple and three RBIs for Saddleback (8-11, 3-6). Sal Pedroza and Joseph Tagaloa each had three hits for Saddleback.

In the Olympic League:

Brethren Christian 6, Orange Lutheran 5--Jonathan Rouwenhorst had 16 strikeouts to raise his county-leading total to 109 for Brethren Christian (14-5, 7-2). Aaron Ireland was two for two with two home runs and four RBIs for Brethren Christian.

Calvary Chapel 7, Ontario Christian 2--Chad Stevens was four for four with an RBI for Calvary Chapel (10-8, 8-1).

In the Orange League:

Brea Olinda 2, Western 1--Darren Frank stole home in the second inning to give Brea (8-11, 6-3) a 1-0 lead and hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to score Andy Drapkowski with the game-winning run for Brea (8-11, 6-3).

Magnolia 4, Savanna 2--Joe Camarillo had three hits in a victory for Magnolia (15-1-1, 8-1). Savanna drops to 3-14, 0-9 in league.

In Sea View League baseball:

Newport Harbor 5, El Toro 1--Newport Harbor’s Garrett Nuzum (2-1) gave up five hits in the complete-game victory at home. The Sailors (6-12, 2-7) scored four runs in the first inning, two coming on home run by Charlie Waite.

Santa Margarita 9, Irvine 4--Santa Margarita’s Nos. 8 and 9 hitters came through in a victory for the fourth-ranked Eagles (17-3, 8-1). Andy Hopper had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored for Santa Margarita. Chad Celani also had two hits and two RBIs.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 15, Dana Hills 6--Mike Kolbach hit two homers and drove in six runs and Nick Lovato (5-0) struck out seven in five innings as Coach Bob Ickes earned his 400th victory at Mater Dei.

San Clemente 1, Mission Viejo 0--San Clemente’s James Anderson (4-0) fired a three-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks. The Tritons are 11-8, 6-3.

In the Sunset League:

Marina 7, Huntington Beach 0--Adam LaFrance (5-1) pitched a three-hitter with four strikeouts for Marina (13-7, 6-3).
