It’s Mop-Up Time for Cal Lutheran

Cal Lutheran pounded out 29 hits and swept La Verne, 12-1 and 6-1, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday at Cal Lutheran.
They were the final regular-season games for the Kingsmen (33-7, 20-1 in conference play), who advanced to a Division III regional next month.
In the first game, Cal Lutheran turned two double plays and a triple play to help starter Erik Kiszczak (10-2), who allowed no runs and five singles in seven innings.
Scott Foli’s grand slam in the second inning gave the Kingsmen a 7-0 lead. Ruben Torres had four hits, and Brad Smith and Anthony Olden each had three.
In the second game, Marco Marquez (9-1) scattered five singles, struck out eight and walked one in 6 1/3 innings. .
The Kingsmen have won five SCIAC titles in six seasons.
La Verne finished 13-23, 9-12.
Santa Clara 13-5, Pepperdine 10-4--The Broncos (28-16, 16-3) moved into first place in the West Coast Conference, two games ahead of Pepperdine (28-20, 14-5).
In the seven-inning first game, Pepperdine’s Randy Wolf and Josh Oder each had three RBIs, Rob Reid had three hits and Tyler Ferrer had two. The Waves rallied for 10 runs in the last two innings.
In the second game, Santa Clara took a 5-0 lead into the sixth inning.
Pepperdine scored twice in the sixth and twice in the ninth. But with the tying run at third base and two out, reliever Mike McDonald retired Chris Cosby on a grounder to end the game.
Glendale 5, Valley 4--Sheldon Philip-Guide scored from first base on David Boger’s double in the bottom of the 10th inning and Glendale (26-13, 15-8) moved into a three-way tie for first place with Bakersfield and Canyon in the Western State Conference Southern Division.
Canyons 10, Pierce 4--Chris Yeaman had two hits, including a three-run triple in the third inning that broke open a WSC game at Canyons.
Luis Sanchez had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs for Canyons (28-13, 15-8), and teammate David Soto had three hits and scored two runs.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
CS Northridge 5-6, Sacramento State 0-0--The Matadors (29-17-2) allowed only four hits in the first game and two in the second to complete a Big West Conference sweep at Sacramento.
Northridge’s Tara Glaister (19-9) struck out eight and walked none in the first game. Shelby Wilcox had three RBIs and Jennifer Parker drove in two runs.
In the second game, Cheri Shinn (10-8) struck out one and walked none. Shinn, Elizabeth Sanches and Ashlie Hayes each had two hits for the Matadors.
Cal Lutheran 5-7, La Verne 2-5--The Regals (23-8-1, 19-3) swept a SCIAC doubleheader at La Verne.
In the first game, Christine Halcomb pitched a four-hitter for Cal Lutheran, and Mandi Comer, Julie DiFatta and Angela Catena each had two hits.
In the second game, the Regals staged a five-hit, four-run rally with two out in the seventh.
Wendy Jackson had three hits.
