Poly Has Sylmar’s Number--Eight

Poly High created a three-way tie atop the Valley Pac-8 Conference baseball race by defeating Sylmar, 8-3, on Tuesday at Sylmar.

It was the Parrots’ eighth consecutive victory over the Spartans dating to 1994, and left Poly (15-10, 10-2 in conference play) tied with Sylmar (13-8, 10-2) and North Hollywood (20-5, 10-2) with five conference games left.

Juan Flores had two hits and drove in three runs for the Parrots.

Carlos Gonzalez had two hits and an RBI the Spartans.

North Hollywood 5, Grant 3--Abraham Montiel hit a two-run home run in the third to give the Huskies the lead for good, then made a diving catch in right field to end the game with two runners in scoring position in the Valley Pac-8 Conference game at North Hollywood.

Merrill Dunn pitched a six-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks for North Hollywood.

Kennedy 2, San Fernando 1--Tim Arroyo singled to drive home Josh Miranda and break a 1-1 tie in the fifth for the Golden Cougars (16-9, 8-4) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Kennedy.

Miranda was three for three and scored both runs.

Jon Garland (7-2) pitched a four-hitter, allowing an unearned run and striking out nine.

Cleveland 8, Granada Hills 7--Tony Cicero hit a three-run home run in the seventh for the Cavaliers (12-9, 8-4) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Granada Hills.

Cicero had two hits and four RBIs.

Taft 6, El Camino Real 3--The Toreadors rallied for five runs against Shaun Fishman in the fifth in a West Valley League game.

Matt Aaronson and Yaron Peters each had two hits for the Toreadors (14-8, 7-5).

Rio Mesa 6, Santa Barbara 2--Richard Almanza had two hits, including a two-run home run in the first inning, for the Spartans (17-2, 8-1) in a Channel League game at Santa Barbara (7-10, 3-6).

Jake Kor pitched a five-hitter while striking out eight.

Calabasas 10, Malibu 1--Matt Sagoian (6-0) allowed one hit in five innings while striking out seven for the Coyotes (19-2, 10-0) in a Frontier League game at Malibu.

Josh Goldfield had three hits and three RBIs, Ricky Stockton had two hits and Brian Fatur had a double and a triple for Calabasas.

Moorpark 12, Santa Clara 9--The Musketeers trailed, 8-1, before rallying in a Frontier League game at Moorpark

Ryan Yoshiwara had a three-run triple, Sean Best added a two-run triple and Wes Rasmussen had a run-scoring double in a six-run sixth inning for the Musketeers (12-8, 7-3).

Hart 13, Canyon 0--Eric Horvat had a three-run home run and a grand slam, driving in seven runs with four hits for the Indians (13-8, 7-3) in a Foothill League game at Canyon.

Saugus 10, Valencia 4--Ron Clark hit a three-run double during a six-run first inning for the Centurions (11-8-1, 7-3) in a Foothill League game at Saugus.

Oak Park 6, Fillmore 3--Jeff Smith’s two-run home run in the fourth gave the Eagles (12-6, 7-1) a 5-3 lead in a Tri-Valley League game at Fillmore (9-6, 5-3).

Smith, Garett Michaels and Ryan Carl each had two hits for Oak Park.

Alemany 7, Loyola 4--Matt Saeger had three hits and scored three runs for the Indians (11-9, 4-5) in a Mission League game.

Clint MacKay (4-5) allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings, striking out seven.

Chaminade 7, Harvard-Westlake 3--Tyler Dersom had three hits, including a three-run home run, and Chris Gray (7-0) allowed two hits over five innings for the Eagles (20-1, 7-1) in a Mission League game at Franklin Field.

Crespi 9, Notre Dame 3--Brian Felten pitched a three-hitter and hit a two-run home run to cap a six-run sixth inning for the Celts (15-8, 6-3) in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.

The Golden Knights (14-6, 5-2) fell out of a first-place tie with Chaminade.
