Mayor Richard Riordan announced Tuesday he has nominated two prominent Valley residents to four-year terms on the city’s Board of Zoning Appeals and Board of Building and Safety Commission.
The City Council must approve the nominations before they become official.
Marvin Selter of Studio City, tapped for the zoning post, is founder and chairman of the board of the National Staff Network, a provider of employee benefit programs.
He is also chairman of the board of the Valley Industry and Commerce Assn. and has served on the San Fernando Valley Economic Alliance and UCLA-Olive View Medical Center Foundation.
Selter would replace Robert Glushon on the zoning board, which hears appeals on parcel maps and zoning administration decisions. Glushon left the board to run for a Charter Reform Commission seat in Marvin Braude’s council district, which includes the south Valley. He will face a runoff for the position in June.
Alejandro Padilla, a Pacoima resident and special projects coordinator for state Assemblyman Tony Cardenas (D-Sylmar), would join the building and safety commission.
Prior to working for Cardenas, Padilla was Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s liaison to the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys as well as to Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. He is a member of the Valley Leadership Institute Board of Directors.
The Board of Building and Safety Commission oversees the city’s Building and Safety Department and hears appeals related to the city building code.
