Calvary Chapel defeated Pomona Catholic, 3-0, Tuesday at Greenbelt Park in Upland to advance to the Southern Section Division V softball final.
The second-seeded Eagles (26-5) took advantage of a key hit and some poor fielding by Pomona Catholic to score two runs in the first inning. Jackie Beadle drove in Christy Ring with a single to center for the first run. On the same play, Lindsay Stice scored when Pacer center fielder Christina Delgado threw the ball past catcher Raquel Serrano.
The Eagles added a run in the seventh by capitalizing on another error by the Pacers. Kori Przygocki reached base on a misplayed pop fly by first baseman Kim Ayala and scored later in the inning when pitcher Keri Przygocki drove her in with a single.
Eagle Coach Rose Imbriano said her team has been playing well during the playoffs and Tuesday’s effort was another example of it. “We’ve been playing that way throughout the playoffs. Keri [14-3] pitched very well today and she had a good defensive effort behind her,” Imbriano said.
The Eagles will face Lancaster Paraclete in the championship game Saturday at Mayfair Park in Lakewood. Paraclete upset No. 1-seeded Santa Maria St. Joseph, 1-0, on Tuesday. The game will begin at 1:30 p.m.
In the Division VI playoffs:
Boron 4, St. Margaret’s 0--Amber Arnold (9-3) pitched a no-hitter and struck out 11 for St. Margaret’s (21-5). But the Tartans committed five errors, three in the fifth inning that allowed Boron (26-2) to score three unearned runs.
Amber Nelson, who was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning for the Bobcats on the Tartans’ second error of the game.
Summer Richardson (26-2) threw a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks for Boron. Heather Webb had the hit for the Tartans.
Second-seeded Boron will play top-seeded Linfield, a 9-0 winner over Cornerstone Christian, in the final.
